9th Annual

MUSTANG MADNESS

at

(From the April 2001 Pony Express)

Wow! What a show that was! The 9th annual "Mustang Madness -All Ford Show" held at McKenna's Windward Ford on Sunday, March 25, 2001, was our biggest ever.

This year's show was very fortunate to have a VIP roster of special guests. Thanks to Dennis Gage, the unmistakable host of the TNN television series "My Classic Car", Mustang Madness will have national TV coverage when it airs in the 2002 season. Dennis, easily recognized by his signature handlebar mustache, who came along with his beautiful wife, Ellen, hopes to, as quoted by him, "bring your show into the homes of car nuts everywhere. .."

Thanks to John Coletti and David Dempster, SVE's chief engineer and powertrain engineer, for making the magazine pages come alive here in Hawaii. Along with them for the ride came SVE's BOSS 429 and Super Stallion for display. What a crowd magnet these two cars were! Both cars have appeared in numerous magazine articles.

And then there's our forever loyal supporter, Bob McClurg, photographer and contributing editor for "Mustang Illustrated", "Muscle Mustangs" and "Trucking" magazines. Bob has given us national magazine coverage for every Mustang Madness Show, and that goes back to 1993. we can never thank him enough!

This was the year of the "All Ford" debut, with hopes of making the Show bigger and better, and from the looks of It, it did just that. It was a record breaking show with 135 cars, hundreds and hundreds of spectators, many of whom were Chevy fans (now that says a lot). Many thanks to our cousins --the T-Birds, Ford Trucks, Antique Fords, Panteras, Cobras and all other non-Mustangs for participating. It's safe to say, that the show's guest list had a lot to do with the high number of participants and spectators, which resulted in media coverage by KGMB, KHON and OLELO. This was also the "luckiest show", weather-wise, that is. Who would have thought that after all that rain, thunder and lightning the night before, that the entire show day would be full of sunshine? It was as if the show was doomed before it even started, but it was too destined for success. The only drawback was the last minute cancellation by 3 vendors.

As always, the success of any show depends on the time and effort spent by your fellow members for the various tasks that need to get done before, during and after the show --Mahalo to the following for their hard work and support: Alan Belshe, Steve Freitas. Judy & Bob DeBone, Tony Castro & Kerrie, Kenny Iboshi, Harry & Melinda Zisko, Bud Cox, Lorin & Suzy Chun. Craig & Melanie Howell, Ed Chow, Pam west & nephews, Jerry Thomas, Brent & Carol Hume. Don & Carol Johnston, Barry & Grace Mumper, Jose Delgado. Gus Beckert, Harry Vasquez. Donna Yamane, Dave Bunker, Paul Olivas, Andy Palisbo, Dave Hammar. (Sorry if anyone was omitted)

And the biggest Mahalo goes to Mike McKenna, who for 9 years has been the generous producer of our annual car show. Remember folks, without his sponsorship, Mustang Madness would never be anything near to what it is today. Our sincere thanks to Mike and his wonderful staff at Windward Ford!
